Our Favorite Recreation Spots within One Hour of our Whispering Oaks Property

Our Location Allows You to Explore the Wonderful Moab Area

Moab Utah is known for its wide array of stunning outdoor recreational opportunities. Our location at Whispering Oaks Ranch, nestled away in the La Sal mountains, provides prime access to Moab (just 20 miles away) as well as other trails, national parks, and viewpoints. While our beautiful location is tucked away within the La Sal mountains, offering the chance for a quiet and tranquil retreat, we also love to see our guests explore the more lively Moab and surrounding areas. The best part? All of our favorite spots are within one hour of our on-site location. So, if you are hoping to get the best of both worlds from your trip to Whispering Oaks by visiting Moab, here are our favorite recreation spots within one hour of our Whispering Oaks property near Moab.

La Sal Mountain Loop Road

This stunning scenic route is just a few minutes away from Whispering Oaks. It offers panoramic views of red rock formations, and the road tops out at a view of 8,000 feet elevation. Not only is the road itself beautiful, but it branches off into other stunning recreational opportunities. A couple of our favorites include Warner and Oowah lakes. Oowah lake offers camping sites at a beautiful mountain lake, where you can fish, walk around, or enjoy a nice picnic. Warner lake is on the smaller and quieter side, offering a tranquil spot to enjoy company or relax and take in the view of surrounding aspen trees.

Arches and Canyonland National Parks

Both around an hour from Whispering Oaks Ranch, the Arches and Canyonland National Parks feature famous red-rock formations that Utah is famous for. Not only is the drive to both parks incredibly scenic, highlighting the best of Utah’s outdoor scenery, but the parks themselves have a lot to offer. If you are looking for hikes, rock climbing, bike trails, stargazing, and more, we highly recommend you visit these parks. If you’re feeling ambitious, it is even doable to visit both parks in one day and make a day trip out of it, all with time to return to Whispering Oaks in the evening.

Sand Flats Road and Overlooks

Just 9 miles from Whispering Oaks Ranch, the Sand flats road is up there with the La Sal loop for scenic drives. This road, however, is unpaved, offering a more authentic experience in Utah’s beautiful nature. This road, in addition to breathtaking views of the surrounding national parks and scenery, offers access to the world famous Slickrock biking trail. This road offers similar recreational and scenic opportunities as the local national parks, all while being less crowded.

Whole Enchilada Bike Trail

Mountain biking is a hugely popular recreational activity in the Moab area. One of our favorite trails is the Whole Enchilada. Covering a huge variety of terrains, from aspen groves to red rock formations, Whole Enchilada showcases nearly all types of scenery that the mountains can provide. Covering nearly 7,000 feet in elevation and 26 or so miles, this trail is a must see. And, its easy to access, with shuttles available. The trail itself is only a short distance from Whispering Oaks Ranch.
