The Whispering Oaks Ranch Story
Whispering Oaks Ranch - Est. 2005 | Moab, UTah
The Beginning of a Moab Vacation Destination
Mike and Kelly opened Whispering Oaks Ranch in May of 2005. Mike grew up in Moab, spending much of his childhood in the LaSal’s… hiking, fishing and hunting. With a love for these mountains, and a dream to someday build a lodge, he and Kelly took the first step in 1998 when they purchased a rare piece of private property on the west side of the La Sal mountains.
To enjoy their new property year-round, the first thing Mike and Kelly built was a garage. With an old cookstove in place, and space for the fishing poles and four wheelers, they were set for many years. No matter the season, they would bring their young kids (Mike’s 3 boys & Kelly’s 2 boys & 1 girl) up to the mountains and let them run wild, building forts, sledding, hiking, fishing, and playing in the water.
After years of saving, researching, and planning, the family began construction for the Cedar Bend Lodge Cabin. Mike and Kelly spent every weekend and many evenings after work at the property taking on as much of the construction duties as possible.
They tossed around the idea of living in the lodge, but as Mike remembers, “One look at the view of the canyonlands from Cedar Bend, and we knew we couldn’t keep this place to ourselves. It needed to be shared.” After just one year of construction, the Cedar Bend Lodge Cabin welcomed its first guests. The Grey Dawn, Wildflower, and Sagewood cabins were also completed in 2005, and before they knew it… Mike and Kelly had built four beautiful vacation rental cabins.
In 2007, the pavilion was added to accommodate the growing number of requests for onsite weddings and group retreats. And in 2013-2014, three additional cabins were built - establishing the property as a one-of-a-kind destination for large families and groups to gather in the Moab area.
We hope that when you visit our cabins, you’ll experience the utmost comfort and rejuvenation that are the mark of a worthwhile vacation. People often tell us that the cabins feel like “home” and this is truly a compliment to us.
The antique accents and rustic luxe decor, the family photos, and comfortable furniture are an expression of what feels like home to us.
These cabins, the mountain property, and the Moab area are all so special to us…and we hope you enjoy it as well!
